Admin Positions & Community Elections

When I first put the ladder online I envisioned a self-sustaining community where as little admin/mod work as necessary was needed. A community which would evolve the way it's active members wanted and one where people would be able to resolve their conflicts them self. In order to accomplish this we've tried to supply you all with some basic tools like the ones you can use to rate each others sportsmanship and question a result or regret a report with. I'm sure this is all just a basic start and that more will follow in the future when more coders decide to work on the project. This far the ones I'd like to thank the most are chains and mr russ for doing some excellent work on the basic Webleague code, from which there's probably not much left of any longer

To make a long story short since many have complained I write too much:

I have been wrong in regards to the part where I thought you could take 800 - 900 players and hope that they'll all play nice and behave according to all the rules. Clearly, and like in all larger social gatherings, some idiots and troublemakers will pop up occasionally. We need a way to regulate them, an administration that can close down accounts, do specific game rulings when asked to, and so on. An administration that is more willing and interested in doing so and that has more time and knowledge than I have in these matters.

Please don't take this the wrong way: I have entertained myself by looking at many of the top players and also randomly selected player profiles. In them I notice something very very cool: You guys usually give each other high sportsmanship ratings. That my friends, is a good sign, one I hope will keep on living. It's actual proof of what I've suspected a long time, that a really huge majority of you are friendly and that the ladder, overall, is the same. Kudos to all of you.

That said, there is still need to have a more powerful admin than I have served as myself. Because of my ideological background, I'm convinced that such an admin must get it's power from the people. In this case it would be the users of this site. That's why I now officially announce that we'll have admikn elections in a near future.

Any active member (equals a person on the ladder) can nominate any active member including him/herself, as a future admin and/or judge. In order to nominate someone please see to it that

1) you make sure they are interested in having such a position, else your nomination would be just a waste of time
2) they are active on the ladder or become active before you nominate them
3) you send an email to me (spam at eyerouge dot com) with the topic "nominee - " from the same e-mail account you have registered here on the ladder.
4) you reply to the verification mail I'll send you once I have read your nomination. If you fail to do so then the nomination won't be valid.

There will be 3 to 5 admin/judge positions open. The exact amount appointed will depend on the need and number of nominations. An admin is a a person that together with the other admins will run this site and everything that has got to do with it. A judge is an admin that also has the right to do rulings in specific games and cases which where there's a player conflict that couldn't be resolved by the players. At this point it's not certain if all admins will be judges or not - that will be up to the admins to decide, as will most other rules and future decisions.

What's important to remember is that we're creating something democratic and that admins can quit their position, in which case a new one would be appointed. In either case re-elections will be held once every year for all the admin positions. It's also important to understand why we're doing this: In order to have people that will govern in here and enforce rules, we need to give those persons our support and make them legit. We need to have a community that's ran by representatives it chooses itself, and one which can take care of it's interests better than a benevolent dictator.

Nominations close on the 1t of October. Currently there are no more details about this. If you want there to be some then start typing and working on them. This all becomes what you make of it in the end.
