Okey. I've really tried to give Stargate Atlantis a fair chance. But I still can't cope with the level it's on. Clearly it must target kids. Like 7 year olds or so, because I can't even imagine a teenager that would find the "acting" legit in it, nor the storyline or anything else for that matter. (And keep in mind I'm 20-something and been reading some cinema classes at the uni.) In my boredom and as a way to escape the troubling crap series I thought it was time to deal with spammers, or should we perhaps calm them spasmers?
A spammer/spasmer is a person that's usually brand new to Wesnoth and is clueless about pretty much everything that relates to the game, not because it's hard to get the info, but because they're young and don't like to read and also think it's a RTS they play. I won't mention names as it's not necessary. In the history of the ladder there has been 2 - 4 such persons.
The spammer/spasmer starts spamming and wrecking havoc on the ladder when he/she becomes the victim of inner muscular spasms: As a result the spammer will then report anything between 5 to 20 or more false game reports.
It's a mystery what the spammer is supposed to achieve by doing so since 1) he/she will clearly be noticed on the ladder as a cheater 2) he/she knows she's a cheater and 3) the spam will be erased and the ladder will be brought back to order, resulting in 5) nothing. This is also the explanation for why the spammer has spasms - there is no other sane explanation, unless of course if we imagine the spammer isn't a sane person, in which case it all makes sense even without the spasms
the news
Anyhow. I think most spammers will have to put down some more effort into pooping on the ladder in the future. I've implemented a timer which checks to see when you reported your last game. If 20 minutes haven't passed, you're not allowed to report. (Get back to me if this amount of minutes needs to be tweaked, I thought it sounded reasonable but I will change it if it causes problems.) I also think trusted players shouldn't be penalized by spamfilters, so after a payer has 100 wins he/she can report freely, without being limited by the timer interval.
I also did something similar to the annoying verification pop-up you see every time when you press the submit button when reporting: The verification pop up will only appear your first 30 reported wins, then it will never show itself again to you.
I did some tests on the new things on my dev machine and it all worked. Since I haven't tested them out in here for abvious reasons you're welcome to contact me if they don't work as they're supposed to.
Catch you soon.
